There was a quality assurance monitoring system in place that was designed to continually monitor and identified shortfalls in service provision. However, we found some concerns highlighted in the body of this report had not been identified through the quality assurance monitoring system. We saw arrangements were in place that made sure people's health needs were met. For example, people had access to the full range of NHS services and systems were in place to ensure people received their medicines safely and as prescribed. Just be aware that we do not provide housing or care services ourselves, so we cannot accept applications for housing and do not have any control over the services listed on our site. We have recently been able to open EAC Advice, a new 'housing options' advice service for older people.

WOODLAND PARK NURSING HOME
A care home is a residential setting where a number of older people live, usually in single rooms or hotel-style suites, because they need regular or continuous access to care. Both ownership and rental options are commonly available, as well as alternative ways of paying for the services on offer – including part deferring payment until a property is sold. We think it’s important you have detailed, comprehensive information so that you can decide which care providers to shortlist. Accommodation, meals, and assistance with personal care and medication.
Despite the limited information within people’s care records we saw staff knew people well and used this knowledge to deliver person centred care. Staff adapted the running of the service to respond to people’s changing needs and preferences. During the visit we had the opportunity to speak with five people who used the service and two relatives.

It includes all 11,500 registered care homes in the UK that cater exclusively or primarily for older people. There is no charge whatsoever to appear in it, and we welcome a photo and descriptive text to enhance the presentation of your home. Housing-with-care is a recent but natural evolution of retirement housing to provide an environment capable of enabling older people to maintain their independence even if they become physically or mentally frail. Generally the whole complex will be designed with attention to accessibility for residents with restricted mobility. Every registered care provider in the UK can claim a free listing on Autumna.

Getting older can make it more difficult to get around and do the things you used to do, or would like to do. Our site offers information and guidance that we hope will be of help to you. If you have a home to sell, you may be able to use the proceeds to pay the deposit on a new property and take out a ‘lifetime mortgage’ to cover the rest of the cost.

Staff told us they had regular safeguarding training, and they were confident they knew how to recognise and report potential abuse. However, we found the correct procedure had not always not been followed. Our Housing Directory aims to include all housing schemes /developments in the UK that are intended for older people.

We also found a lack of information within care records to demonstrate that risks were being appropriately assessed, monitored and mitigated. We last inspected this service in January 2014 and found it was meeting all of the regulations inspected at that time. A range of activities were provided and we saw people were able to move freely around the home. There was a relaxed and happy atmosphere as people occupied themselves chatting with one another, meeting with visitors, looking at magazines, watching television or following their own particular interests.

Our last inspection took place on 27 June 2017 at that time the service was rated ‘Good’ overall with no breaches or regulations. For services we haven't rated we use ticks and crosses to show whether we've asked them to take further action or taken enforcement action against them. Our National Housing for Older People Awards celebrate examples of successful retirement housing and housing-with-care. We frame our offer around ‘home’ because we understand its importance for everyone. But also because planning ahead may be needed to ensure that where you live now is ‘age proofed’, and that if you wish to consider moving, you have good information and advice to help you understand all your options. As with hotels, the cost of living in a care home varies widely according to its location, the size of your room or suite, and the facilities on offer.
A popular feature on our site is the Entertainers’ Directory, which offers an advertising opportunity to entertainers who enjoy performing to older people in retirement housing, day centre and care home settings. This site offers providers of services, accommodation and related advice a free opportunity to advertise what you do. The site’s 4 million visitors a year comprise roughly 45% older people, 45% younger family and relatives, and 10% professionals who work with older people. Daily help, including personal care, is available on site and one or more meals are available daily in a dining room or restaurant. Additional facilities are also common – for example hairdressing salons, hobby rooms and gyms. Organised activities will focus on helping residents maintain their health and wellbeing.
